Sleep....Who Needs Sleep!?

Every new mother knows the most often asked sometimes dreaded question..."How's he/she sleeping?" Sometimes we reply with "doing great!" other times we sigh with tired eyes and say, "ok" and other times we want to fall to the floor, take a nap wherever we are...regardless of who's around and say...."THEY HAVE GONE ON SLEEP STRIKE!! HEEEEELLLLLLPP!!"  HA HA

So In my last post I mentioned that we have been working on getting Mr. Hudson to sleep in his crib, we have been pretty successful but there are the days that I could care less what the books say to do...I JUST WANT TO SLEEP!

Yesterday Hudson turned 7 months old and I think he hit a ton of milestones all in one day! He found reverse, stood up at the couch and toy basket, stood up in his crib, learned to get to the sitting position all by himself and TODAY he crawled across the living room! I thought these things happened ONE AT A TIME! So.....after a couple of nights of success in the crib, I was feeling pretty confident. We put Hudson in his crib, said his prayers like we always do and kissed him goodnight. I always come watch him on the video monitor for a little bit after he goes to sleep and to my surprise the monitor was facing the floor. I walked in to the nursery and found my sweet boy all smiles standing up and he had knocked the monitor to the ground!

We laid him back down and let him cry for a bit and finally he fell asleep.

At 12:30 am I heard some noises coming from the nursery and once again saw our little monkey standing! I got him out changed him, nursed him and put him back to bed. Usually if he wakes in the middle of the night he goes back to sleep within a couple of minutes....OH NOT THIS TIME! I watched him on the monitor for about 15 minutes...crawling back and forth, standing, sitting, rolling, standing again, sitting, throwing his pacifier then crawling to get it! Oh he was SO PROUD OF HIMSELF!

Look Momma...I can Crawl!!!

I made an executive decision...MOMMA NEEDS TO SLEEP!!! So...In I went AGAIN swooped him up, grabbed 2 swaddling blankets (one for his arms, one for his legs) HE'S TOO BIG FOR THEM SO I HAD TO MAKE DO...and I wrapped him up in a straight jacket and put him in his bassinet! HA HA! My baby burrito slept ALL NIGHT after that and woke up at 8:30!

I looked it up today and found that when little ones accomplish something new sometimes in the middle of the night they wake up and WANT TO PRACTICE! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? HA HA...He's such a little athlete just like Daddy!

Hudson VS. Carrots...Carrots Won!

7 Months Old!

I'm So Big!

Wow! I can't believe I am SO STRONG!

So today, both naps have been taken wrapped up like a burrito and you better believe it that tonight I will do the same thing, only he will be in his crib! MOMMA NEEDS TO SLEEP!

Ok Mommy readers....Tell me some of your sleep struggles, tricks and tales!

Until Next Time...

June, July, August, September, October, November, December, JANUARY!

June, July, August, September, October, November, December, JANUARY...

Hudson, today you are 7 months old! It seems like just yesterday I was shopping for the perfect outfit to bring you home in...wondering what you would look like, what it would feel like to hold my own baby, to watch you discover and grow.
The LOVES of my life!

It seems like just yesterday, that I told Daddy, "I think I'm in LABOR!" that we drove to Clovis Community and the nurse said, "We're having a baby today!" I remember every detail of the day you were born, the day we gave you your first bath, the day you rolled over for the first time! All of these precious moments are fresh in my mind and yet I look at you...this little baby who is quickly turning into a busy little monkey!

Trying on Daddy's Helmet

Soon you'll be riding horses!

Your new buddy Waylon!

I have said this from the beginning, EVERY DAY you do something new! Whether it's the discovery of your little tongue, a new squeal or an incredible accomplishment, it's SO MUCH FUN to watch you grow.

You LOVE your bath!

This past week we have been focused on putting you to sleep in your crib! OH BOY....what an adventure it has been! I think one of the HARDEST things I'VE EVER DONE is allowing you to learn to self sooth! Daddy kept saying, "he's's ok..." but many times I gave in and got you out of bed (only prolonging the process!) Daddy gave in sometimes too! So it took about a week of little tears and mommy tears and tired days but I think we figured it out, we don't let you cry for too long, but allow you to cry a little.  So as of now, you cry for about a minute and then off to dream land you go. Last night you went to bed at 7:45, woke up to eat and get a clean diaper at 3 am, then again at 6 am and woke up for the day at 8:45.

You have made so many accomplishments!
On January 10th you started crawling! You took 3 crawls in a row
On January 17th you found reverse when crawling, stood up by yourself at the couch and your toy basket!
On January 18th you stood up in your crib at 6:00 am. Daddy went in to check on you and there you were STANDING! Good thing we moved the mattress down!
On our scale at home you weigh 18lbs.
You are wearing 9 months clothes but fit in some 12 months too!
You have amazing balance and can sit on your firetruck when we push you without falling off!
You can go from sitting to crawling position and back to sitting all by yourself!
You LOVE TO EAT! You are still nursing but get food at night. Mommy makes all of your food and so far you have eaten: sweet potatoes, pears, peas, banana (don't like it much), avocado (starting to like it more), carrots, yogurt, rice cereal.
You still love taking a bath and now take a bath in the big bathtub without your whale tub! You love playing with bath toys and splashing!
Your favorite toys right now are your firetruck and your shapes blocks.

Being your mommy has taught me a lot! The love we have for you is unlike anything we've ever experienced. It's amazing to think that God loves us even more than that! It seems impossible! We truly have been blessed and thank God for you every day!

As I write this I just finished feeding and rocking you, I love holding you in my arms and playing with you. One day, you will be too big for mommy to hold in my arms, but I will always be here for you!

I love you so much buddy! (You just found the door stop on the back of the door and you are "boinging"it!) ha ha...always something new!

Until Next Time...

Looking Back on 2010

Looking back on 2010 is emotional! WOW...what a year full of miracles, love, joy, tears and many firsts.

On January 29, 2010 we found out we were having a little boy! We already knew his name would be Hudson, but did not know his middle name yet. We were choosing between Brock, James and Jon. We chose Hudson James to be named after Daddy, Duncan James:)

Watching my belly grow and grow and grow was truly amazing. Feeling the little flutters turn into strong movements and kicks was my FAVORITE! I loved being pregnant and loved how much Duncan loved our baby even when he was in my womb.

On June 18, 2010 at 5:51pm we were given the most amazingly, perfect gift from our Lord and Savior...Hudson James Reid was born. Duncan and I went from being 2 to having a family of 3. We learned every day how to care for this innocent little child who depended on us for everything. It was humbling and challenging, but at the same time the most truly amazing moments I've ever experienced.
There is nothing like holding your brand new baby in your arms and having him stare into your eyes, curl up on your chest and fall asleep or stop crying the moment you pick him up. It's a gift that God has given mothers and fathers that no one else can replace. The moment Hudson was born, parents were also born.

Watching Hudson grow has been such a blessing. Staying home with my baby has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I have prayed for many years that if it was God's Will for me to be a "stay at home" mom that He would open the doors. I couldn't believe it when we finally made the decision for me to stay home this school year. I had mixed emotions, was worried about money and then my amazing husband said, "well, Hudson is more important than anything else...we'll make it work" He is the man of the house and the Leader of our family and I knew at that moment, that staying home for right now was God's Will.  It's been an adjustment all around, but a true blessing and my dream and prayers come true. Thanks be to God!

So many memories in such little time...this is just a snapshot Hudson of what you've experienced so far!

Duncan and I have always prayed that God would open and shut doors as He sees fit for our family. That the paths we travel would be what He has chosen for our lives not necessarily what we choose for our lives. In praying this we have times where we WANT what we WANT and hope that God wants the same thing too:) Over 2 years ago Duncan got a job offer with LA City Fire Dept. We were so excited and even though we would have loved to stay in the central valley we were ready to make our journey to LA so that Duncan could follow his dreams as a Firefighter. Well....God had other plans! Right before Duncan was suppose to start academy, the state's budget was a MESS and LA ran out of Money! So...more waiting and applying ALL OVER CALIFORNIA was the next steps. When we got married we thought we would be in our apartment for a year! It's been 3 1/2 years and we're still here!  San Francisco, LA, Burbank, San Jose, Fresno, Culver City...are some of the departments Duncan applied with over the past 4 years! He always dreamt of working for Clovis or Fresno fire, being in dispatch he has worked directly with these departments and always thought highly of them and we love where we live and love that it is so close to family. Well...Clovis was not supposed to hire for a couple of years due to the state's budget but they GOT A GRANT to hire 6 firefighters! We couldn't believe it! 1000's applied...and DUNCAN GOT HIRED on December 5, 2010! The Lord sure has plans! So many doors were closed over the past 4 years! Duncan stayed patient and persistant and we had to trust in God's plan or we would have gone crazy! What an amazing Christmas gift that was! Duncan has wanted to be a firefighter all of his life and NOW HE IS! He starts Monday, January 3, 2011!

From January to December and all the months in between, 2010 was an AMAZING year! There were tears of sadness, tears of joy, struggles and accomplishments that make us stronger each day. We truly feel blessed and know that God has plans for our lives, we just have to step back and trust in Him.

"The Lord has done great things for us and we are filled with joy." Psalm 126:3
